Retail

The opening of St Stephen's in September 2007 marked a new era for shopping in Hull with some 250,000 customers flocking to the new shopping centre spending an estimated £1.5m within just two weeks.

St Stephen's has acted as a catalyst for further investment in the city, with retailers raising their game to compete for the additional 7,000 people St Stephen's is attracting to the city's shops every day.

With brand new flagship developments and readily available existing sites offering opportunities for leading fashion brands to speciality stores, Hull is a prime location for retail investment.

Increase in footfall in the city centre
7,000 additional people per day are expected to be attracted to the city's shops every day following the opening of St Stephen's.

In addition, over the last year Hull has enjoyed an action packed programme of events which amongst other things brought Clipper race yachts into Hull Marina; saw celebrity Chef Ainsley Harriott giving cookery demonstrations at the hugely successful Global Food Fest and brought pirate mania to the streets of Hull as part of the Maritime Weekend.

Safe and lively city centre
Operating a Business Improvement District (BID), our city centre offers a safe and clean environment in which to do business, thanks to a dedicated team who are committed to making it an attractive place in which to live and work.

With an emphasis on promoting a lively and active evening economy, the BID works to provide a regular series of events designed to create a vibrant evening economy, offering significant benefits to retailers wishing to take advantage of this growing market. Skilled workforce
Having already anticipated the need for skilled workers to fill the surge of vacancies across this area, an innovative 'Retail Academy' has been established by our local further education provider, Hull College, to offer qualifications, progression routes into higher level studies and student support in areas such as retail, logistics, customer services and management.

In addition, with a well-established university situated just a 10 minute bus journey away from our city centre, retailers can rest assured that they have easy access to a readily available student population, which is served by frequent and reliable public transport.
