Healthcare Technologies

The Humber is home to healthcare giants Novartis, Smith & Nephew and Reckitt Benckiser as well as a world-class Medical School and a University with a broad and expert range of pioneering medical breakthroughs, state-of-the-art healthcare research facilities and established clinical trials experience.

We are creating innovations in healthcare technologies and are looking for new businesses and people to help make the Humber a quality destination that makes exciting things happen.

Hull brings together telehealth expertise to provide a holistic approach to the new service concepts in telehealth that promise to form the basis for telehealth service delivery in the NHS and elsewhere.

The largest randomised controlled trial of heart failure telehealth ever conducted was led by Hull and we have been actively delivering telehealth for more than 10 years. View further information on the Centre for Telehealth| website.

Skin care
Harnessing skin health expertise at the University of Hull and Smith & Nephew's worldwide centre of excellence for advanced wound care, both based in the city, we are well placed to capitalise on the global growth in this market.

In addition to development of novel sunscreens, topical medicines and advanced wound care products in the Department of Chemistry, the University's Faculty of Health and Social Care offers particular complementary expertise focusing on behavioural and psychological approaches to product development and use, including adherence and concordance improvement, self-management of chronic dermatoses and primary and secondary prevention measures. A number of shared research ventures are being developed with industry and knowledge based organisations.

Functional foods
HONEI |is a world-leading centre in health-related food research, delivering 'Bench to Bedside' research projects for the food, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors. The team is already undertaking contract research for the Food Standards Agency, Neutraceutical producers and is working with some of Europe's largest companies including Nestle.

HONEI offers In vitro and In vivo Clinical Trials, Research, Analytical Services, Consultancy, Intellectual Property Rights Development and Validation, Tech Transfer, Continuous Professional Development, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and Expert Witness Services.

Innovation and knowledge transfer services
The University of Hull provides for a comprehensive package of innovation and knowledge transfer services supporting health-tech businesses, and those in other sectors with opportunities for diversification. The University has a reputation for academic and research excellence in Functional Food/Nutraceuticals, Telehealth and niche Medical Devices/Technologies. Recent investment in new staff has brought significant expertise in the growing area of Skin Health, and investment on-campus in a new 6m biomedical research facility is supplementing our R&D laboratory facilities. The proposal would deliver a programme of supplementary business and technology support in these niche specialisms for SMEs across the Humber.
