Ports & Logistics

Building on our unique location and connectivity, the Hull & Humber Ports provide a superbly placed entry point into and out of the UK, given its position as the largest ports complex in the UK.

Whilst southern ports face increasing congestion, Hull & Humber ports has a huge opportunity to displace this traffic thanks to its excellent geographical location, already welcoming more than 16% of the UK's seaborne trade via its excellent short-sea trade links with Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic States.

What's more, with access to 40m people and 75% of UK manufacturing within a four hour drive, it's easy to see why Hull & Humber is quickly becoming an increasingly important hub for trade and industry and with a strong presence in manufacturing, chemical and energy related markets - it's a success story that is set to continue.

Rapid growth in the ports sector has also instigated a significant ongoing capital investment programme by Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK's largest and leading ports group. With an impressive existing customer base including major players such as BP Chemicals, Finnforest, AarhusKarshamn, Tate & Lyle and P&O Ferries, ABP has channeled over £40 million into the development of its services and facilities since the year 2000.

Currently providing jobs for a workforce of around 5,000 people through the various companies based on the port, the Port of Hull continues to play an instrumental role in the prosperity of Hull & Humber, with a further 18,000 workers are employed directly as a result of port activity in the city and surrounding area. As the 5th largest port for international sea passengers throughout the whole of the UK, there are a number of exciting developments in the pipeline for the Port of Hull.

Already supporting a growing professional services market, pioneering developments such as the University of Hull's Logistics Institute and World Trade Centre Hull & Humber, are putting Hull & Humber on a global stage.
