St. Stephen's

St StephensSt Stephen's shopping centre has not only succeeded in transforming Ferensway beyond recognition - creating 1,268 new jobs and acting as a catalyst for further investment in the city, but the £200m scheme has been hailed as one of the best regeneration projects in the world at the RICS (the Royal institution of Chartered Surveyors) Awards 2008.

This award followed its success in the regional heats in where it was praised as 'Best Regeneration Project in Yorkshire' at the RICS Pro-Yorkshire Awards 2008, St Stephen's was entered into the international finals where it beat off stiff competition from a number of renowned developments including The O2 Arena, St Pancras International and the Seewurfel project in Switzerland. Most recently, St Stephen's has won Regeneration and Renewal's best mixed use regeneration scheme in September 2009.

Led by one of the world's leading developers ING Real Estate, St Stephen's| is one of the biggest regeneration projects in the UK. St Stephen's opened on schedule in September 2007 and has transformed the city centre, creating a new, 24 hour, vibrant community at its heart and most importantly, with a target of creating 2500 new jobs for Hull.

The £200m development has helped the city generate about £700m of retail spending in the first four months of the year, according to retail experts CACI. The figure eclipses the sum for the same period last year before the centre opened, which stood at £540m.

A number of new shops including Zara, H&M, La Senza and Jane Norman have been added to the city's retail offer. St Stephen's has already acted as a catalyst for further investment in the city, with retailers raising their game to compete for the additional 7,000 people St Stephen's is expected to attract to the city's shops every day.

In addition, a state of the art Paragon Interchange| provides integrate bus and rail travel and delivers some 24,000 people to St Stephen's door each day.

Further phases of the development have provided a cinema, an Express by Holiday Inn Hotel, a new restaurant, the Albemarle Music Centre| and a new home for the acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre|.
